Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh Training Weekend

Year 9 Students have taken part in their first training weekend for their Bronze DofE Award.

This past weekend a group of Year 9 students were learning the skills needed for their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions.

They worked in groups of 7 and learnt many expedition skills including navigation, teamwork, cooking, tent pitching, first aid and route planning with their instructors from Marrick Priory Outdoor centre.

A Bronze DofE programme has four sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition. You must do a minimum of three months activity for each of the Volunteering, Physical and Skills sections, and plan, train for and do a two-day, one-night Expedition.

Although, currently overnight excursions are prevented due to Covid-19 restrictions, students will still complete expeditions and demonstrate that they are able to erect tents and cook for themselves.

Mr Rodaway, who coordinates the school's DofE Award programme said, "It was a fantastic training weekend and we hope the weather is just as nice for their expeditions in June and July!"
